DEBIT CARDS

A debit card provides all the convenience of an ATM card and a checkbook!

  • Use your debit card at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) worldwide to check your balance, withdraw cash or transfer money between your UBI accounts. You’ll have access to your account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • Use your debit card to make purchases from your checking account. Use it to purchase gas, food, gifts, or whatever you want anywhere the Visa symbol is displayed. You approve a debit purchase with your Personal Identification Number (PIN) or with your signature on the sales receipt.

  • This is not a credit card, so there is no balance that accrues on the card. The amount of your purchase is subtracted from your checking account usually within 24 hours. The amount and description of your transaction will be listed on your monthly checking account statement.

Two Options – You Choose!

  • Our standard debit card is free as long as you use it for five or more signed purchases each month.  If you don't use your card that frequently, there is a $1.00 monthly fee. Click here to apply.
  • Our photo debit card has your photo and signature imprinted on the front - making it virtually impossible for anyone to fraudulently use your card.  This card costs just $5.00 to set up.  There is a $1.00 monthly fee, however, this fee is waived with five signed purchases per month!

Commonly Asked Questions:

Am I eligible for a debit card?
Customers who have a United Bank of Iowa checking account in good standing are eligible to apply for our debit cards.

How long will it take to get my debit card?
You will receive it in the mail approximately two weeks after your application has been approved.

What if I forget my PIN?
For your protection, please call any UBI office to set up a new one.

Will I be charged for ATM withdrawals?
There is no transaction fee if you use ATM terminals owned by United Bank of Iowa.  There is a fee of $1.00 for each transaction over five per month made at non-UBI ATMs.  If you need to use an ATM owned by another bank, look for the Privileged Status logo.  Since United Bank of Iowa is a Privileged Status member, you can use any ATM with the Privileged Status logo and avoid surcharge fees.

What is the maximum amount available with my debit card?
You can obtain $250 cash per day at ATMs and $1,000 per day in purchases. Higher limits can be arranged with officer approval.

Can I put my savings account on the debit card?
You can have access to your savings account by using your debit card at ATM’s only. Your savings account cannot be used for debit card purchases.

What do I do if I lose my debit card?
Please notify the bank so that activity can be stopped immediately on your debit card. Click here to report your debit or credit card stolen.

Why do merchants ask me if I’m paying with debit or credit? And, what is the difference?
The merchant is simply asking how you would like the transaction processed. No matter how you respond, the purchase is deducted from your checking account! So, if you say “credit”, the purchase does NOT get billed to your credit card.

Here’s the difference...

If you say debit...the transaction is processed through the ATM network and you must give your PIN.

If you say credit...the transaction is processed through the Visa network, you do not have to give your PIN and you will receive a signed receipt. And, if you have five signed purchases a month, we will waive the monthly fee!

BUSINESS DEBIT CARDS

Our business debit card provides businesses with many benefits including better record keeping of business expenses, less need for cash or checks and protection from unauthorized purchases. You can get multiple cards for employees, each with assigned spending limits. There is no monthly service charge and your first card has no set-up fee.

Start enjoying the convenience and security of a debit card...apply at any of our locations or apply now by clicking here.

Each depositor insured to at least $250,000.
